Seriously, this is a hazard. Especially when driven on the highway at 70 mph.
I was driving home from work when this thing started shedding weight like the contestants on the Biggest Loser! I evasively (and defensively) avoided being crushed by chunks of flying metal!
I almost called the police but decided not to when he slowed down.
Honestly though, I think this really could have used tarps or something to hold the mangled mess together.

well if you crash he can score some more money on another tow, so win win, for him

So that's how he got the truck. Evasive maneuvers gone wrong!

Wow, this JUST happened to me today.
I'm behind a flatbed with a Nissan Murano that looked like it had been hit on the right rear. When I got closer, I realized the rear light housing was freely bouncing around. I backed off, changed lanes, then saw the lens or something let loose, fall to the ground, then get run over by the vehicle behind it.
A little car cover or something for these types of cars would go a long way holding these little pieces from flying off.

On the 635 in Dallas a few years ago a trailer hitch came loose from a truck in a very similar situation to what you pictured above. It bounced several times before embedding itself in my windshield. If it had broken through it would have hit me in the head. At 70 MPH.
Whee.

635 should have a speed limit of 35! That freeway is a deathwish.

I got hit with a tarp this February, on my way home from work. Doing 60, guy's pulling a boat with a tarp that's flapping faster than his wheels are spinning. He clearly spent all of 7 seconds tying the tarp down. Well, ended up stuck to the front of my car for a few scary seconds.
